History with Shadow EditMephiles was accidentally created during the Solaris Project, under the supervision of the Duke of Soleanna. He is the conscience and mind of Solaris, making him the main antagonist of Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). He was sealed in the Scepter of Darkness by Shadow the Hedgehog, who had travelled through time ten years before the events of the game. In the present, Dr. Eggman accidentally releases him while trying to steal the scepter from Shadow and Rouge. Upon the scepter's destruction, Mephiles' spirit absorbed Shadow's shadow, from which he took physical form; thus giving him an uncanny resemblance to Shadow. Throughout the game, he attempts to manipulate Shadow by revealing Shadow's future: imprisonment by mankind. He tells Shadow that if he will fight for him, this would not happen. But the reason that Shadow would be imprisoned was because of Iblis, the strength and force of Solaris. So if Shadow would fight for Mephiles, he would be fighting for his destruction. Shadow, however, resisted Mephiles' temptations, and defeated him and his army of clones, created with the power of two Chaos Emeralds. Mephiles killed Sonic in order to release Iblis and join with him to form Solaris. Solaris threw the world into a space-time rift, where Sonic's friends, including Shadow, revived Sonic with all seven Chaos Emeralds. With the Chaos Emeralds, Super Sonic, Super Shadow, and Super Silver defeated Solaris. Later, the events of the game were erased by Sonic and Elise, so technically, Mephiles never existed.
In Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), Mephiles is shown to be very calculated. He is quite deceptive, always lying to characters such as Silver and Shadow. It is unknown as to whether or not he feels pain, as he reacted when Shadow damaged him, but took three rounds from E-123 Omega without flinching. Apparently, his one goal is to join with Iblis and destroy the world.
